Estimating Community-Level Plant Functional Traits in a Species-Rich Alpine Meadow Using UAV Image Spectroscopy

چکیده

Plant functional traits at the community level (plant hereafter) are commonly used in trait-based ecology for study of vegetation–environment relationships. Previous studies have shown that a variety plant species or can be successfully retrieved by airborne spaceborne imaging spectrometer homogeneous, species-poor ecosystems. However, findings from these may not apply to heterogeneous, species-rich Here, we aim determine whether unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based hyperspectral could adequately estimate alpine meadow ecosystem on Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. To achieve this, compared performance four non-parametric regression models, i.e., partial least square (PLSR), generic algorithm integrated with PLSR (GA-PLSR), random forest (RF) and extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) retrieval 10 using visible near-infrared (450–950 nm) UAV imaging. Our results show chlorophyll a, b, carotenoid content, starch specific leaf area thickness were estimated good accuracies, highest R2 values between 0.64 (nRMSE = 0.16) 0.83 0.11). Meanwhile, estimation accuracies nitrogen phosphorus height dry matter content relatively low, varying 0.3 0.24) 0.54 0.20). Among tested algorithms, GA-PLSR produced accuracy, followed XGBoost, RF showed poorest performance. Overall, our demonstrates UAV-based has potential accurately multiple natural grassland fine scale.

Nurse species and indirect facilitation through grazing drive plant community functional traits in tropical alpine peatlands

Facilitation among plants mediated by grazers occurs when an unpalatable plant extends its protection against grazing to another plant. This type of indirect facilitation impacts species coexistence and ecosystem functioning in a large array of ecosystems worldwide. It has nonetheless generally been understudied so far in comparison with the role played by direct facilitation among plants. We a...

Habitat-specific responses of leaf traits to soil water conditions in species from a novel alpine swamp meadow community

Species originally from alpine wetland and alpine meadow communities now coexist in a novel 'alpine swamp meadow' community as a consequence of wetland drying in the eastern Tibetan Plateau. Considering the projected increase in the fluctuation of water supply from precipitation during the growing season in this area in the future, it is important to investigate the responses of the species tha...

Fire Alters Vegetation and Soil Microbial Community in Alpine Meadow

Grassland fire, as an important ecological factor, is quite influential in determining the structural and functional stability of ecosystem. In this work, the fire-induced changes on the vegetation and soil microbial community were studied in alpine meadow. Microbial community composition was assessed by phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) analysis, and functional diversity was determined by Biolog ...

Contrasting soil microbial community functional structures in two major landscapes of the Tibetan alpine meadow

The grassland and shrubland are two major landscapes of the Tibetan alpine meadow, a region very sensitive to the impact of global warming and anthropogenic perturbation. Herein, we report a study showing that a majority of differences in soil microbial community functional structures, measured by a functional gene array named GeoChip 4.0, in two adjacent shrubland and grassland areas, were exp...

Covariation in Plant Functional Traits and Soil Fertility within Two Species-Rich Forests

The distribution of plant species along environmental gradients is expected to be predictable based on organismal function. Plant functional trait research has shown that trait values generally vary predictably along broad-scale climatic and soil gradients. This work has also demonstrated that at any one point along these gradients there is a large amount of interspecific trait variation. The p...
